LAUNDRY & TAXES

A Cinematic Experience with JADE

When my wife, Jade, stepped into the surreal world we had crafted for my first modeling workshop, it was clear this shoot was going to be something special. Hosted in collaboration with my good friend Porcelain Violence, we set out to create three immersive sets based on A24 films—Midsommar, Hereditary, and Everything Everywhere All At Once. Our goal? To pull thematic elements from each film without falling into the usual tropes seen in other photo shoots. Not that there’s anything wrong with those—it’s just not my vibe.

The event took place at The Church of the Sparkling Unicorn, home to TRAUMA and DRAUMA. Jade played a critical role in not only modeling but curating the mood boards and hand-selecting the outfits. Her passion for the EEAAO sets truly set the tone, and her contribution went far beyond logistics—she was instrumental in shaping the entire vibe of the day.

Jade was undoubtedly one of the standout models in our unforgettable session, effortlessly blending into the captivating cinematic worlds we meticulously created. Despite the intense, oppressive August heat inside the church (and trust me, it was sweltering and almost unbearable), Jade, along with the rest of the incredibly dedicated crew, powered through like true champions. The room, wrapped in plastic drapes, was heated further by the glaring construction lights, making it particularly challenging, but Jade’s professionalism and grace never wavered. Even when I found myself shirtless, drenched in sweat, and fervently swapping out lenses in the thick, steamy air, the creative energy in the room remained wonderfully high, buzzing with inspiration.

SHE CREATED LIFE

SHE CAN BE A LITTLE WARM

For the technical side, I shot with my Sony A7IV, paired with a Sigma 85 Art 1.4, a Sony GMaster 24-70 2.8, and a Sigma Art 35 1.4 to capture the different moods from each set. I also used Prism FX’s kaleidoscope filter to add a layer of visual complexity, complemented by Neewer RGB panel lighting to shift the atmosphere. As always, my approach to photography involves not just recreating scenes but pulling out the emotional undertones that resonate with me from the themes of each film.

The Experience: Finding Flow and Comfort

What makes my portrait photography stand out—especially here in Columbus, Ohio—is my commitment to capturing how a model sees themselves or, more often than not, how they wish they could. With Jade, this was no exception. I pride myself on delivering an uncompromising creative vision, with storytelling that unfolds in layers, much like the films that inspired this shoot.
